7 Reasons Why You’re Not Losing Weight + Giveaway

Struggling to shed the extra weight? If so, you’re not alone. Millions of people embark on diets and health regimes in good faith – only to give up after just a few days. But why isn’t your approach to weight loss working? Well, there could be a few reasons.

1. You’re eating too few calories

Cutting back on calories too much is usually counter-productive. Your body needs a certain number of calories to function normally. If it isn’t getting those calories on a daily basis, there is a chance it will go into starvation mode. This might mean that your body starts to take vital nutrients and energy from your muscles – leaving you feeling lethargic and tired. And of course, starving your body will only increase the intensity of the hunger pangs you experience.

2. You’re not eating often enough

Little and often is a great mantra to follow when dieting. Eat snacks and smaller meals throughout the day, which should keep your metabolism ticking over nicely. If you’re going too long between meals, your body will slow the rate of metabolism to save energy, and this will slow down the rate at which you burn fat. Have a stash of healthy snacks available at all times to munch on throughout the day.

3. You’re setting unrealistic weight loss goals

Natural, long-lasting weight loss requires achievable and realistic targets. If you have three stone to lose, you can’t expect to lose the first in a week. Missing the goals you set yourself can cripple your confidence, and make you turn to food for solace. Use an app such as the Kiqplan weight loss program in order to set yourself realistic goals. This digital coaching app will give you the nutritional advice and workouts required to hit both your primary goal and your interim goals along the way.

4. You’re not eating the right foods

Consuming the right amount of calories is all well and good, but if what you’re eating isn’t filling you, you’ll be more likely to succumb to temptation. Loading up on vegetables and protein is a great way to make yourself feel full. Eat fibre-rich foods throughout the day, steer clear of processed wheat and drink lots of water. These strategies should help you to feel fuller for longer, and stop you turning to highly calorific foods when hunger pangs strike.

5. You’re not exercising enough

Diet is the most important factor in any weight loss program, but exercising will accelerate weight loss considerably – keeping you motivated and focused. Exercising for at least 30 minutes, three times a week should be enough to boost your metabolism and increase the rate at which you burn off calories.

6. You’re expecting a quick fix

Weight loss should be about making permanent lifestyle changes. Yes, you might be able to drop several pounds during the first week or two of a new health and fitness regime, but there will be times when the rate at which you lose weight slows dramatically. Weight loss plateaus are part and parcel of getting into shape, so you should prepare yourself for them. The only way to lose weight – and keep it off – is to do it gradually.

7. Cutting out too much fat

Believe it or not, some fats are good for you. In fact, you should be aiming to consume around 20 percent of your daily calorie allowance in the form of fat. Of course, this doesn’t mean eating fried eggs and bacon every morning for breakfast, but it does mean switching to olive oil instead of butter. There is even evidence to suggest that eating good fats can speed up your metabolism. Stick to vegetable fats such as those from seeds, coconut oil, avocado and nuts. You will also get some excellent benefits from eating certain animal fats, including organic egg yolks and oily fish like salmon and cod.

Don’t be taken in by the quick fix mentality. To achieve a healthy weight, the most important thing is that you exercise regularly, eat well and generally look after yourself.
