Spotlight Series: Brittany from FitxBrit

Next on my Spotlight Series, I’m featuring Brittany on the blog. She’s an amazing and inspiring person I’ve loved getting to know. Brittany is a full-time teacher who also juggles her new blog and fitness concept Fit x Brit along with being an incredible mom to her adorable daughter Peyton. As a new blogger on the rise, it’s been amazing to see her grow and engage with a community promoting other female girl bosses and entrepreneurs. Hope you enjoy reading her interview as much as I did. AND it’s her birthday. Happy Birthday my dear.

Name: Brittany Giles
Blog: FitXBrit (pronounced “Fit by Brit”)
Website: www.FitxBrit.com

Short About Me: I am a 32 year old educator, mother, blogger and fitness/nutrition enthusiast. I am constantly struggling with the adage: “When you know better, do better,” because sometimes (read: most of the time) I know better and want to do the exact opposite.

Why did you start your blog and how long have you been blogging? As a full time teacher, I’ve learned the importance of a commitment to something greater than myself. After becoming a mother to my beautiful daughter Peyton in 2014, I became aware of how hard it is to balance work, life, and maintaining a healthy lifestyle.  It’s difficult, but not impossible. My desire to highlight my journey through trial and error is what led to the creation of FitXBrit.com.  So, the brand has been around for about 2 years and the site launched this past October – LOL.

What is the most valuable piece of advice you’d like to offer to other bloggers who are looking to grow their blog? Geesh, patience seems to be the name of the game. It is really easy to doubt yourself and your journey because it’s second nature to compare ourselves to others. You have to constantly remind yourself that you have no idea what is going on behind the scenes and it is best to operate with blinders. Do what works for you and your brand, be inspired by others, but not intimidated.

What are your favorite types of workouts? I have  a very addictive personality so, when I am in LOVE with something I tend to burn out.  Currently, I am obsessed with all things yoga related and can really see the benefits of it.

Where’s the best place to get a sweat in Dallas? I would definitely have to say City Surf Fitness and Plum Yoga.  Both are total opposites of the spectrum but, both are super intense and I always leave feeling extremely motivated and excited for my next visit. City Surf can be super intimidating – it took me 2 months to go back after my first experience – but it gets easier if you stay consistent. Plum Yoga’s instructors are challenging but very patient and hands on. They know everyone is on a different level and they really work with you where you are at. Not to mention the tea is AMAZING!

When you indulge, what do you crave? I tend to drink my calories – which isn’t good at all – so, any frozen drink is hard for me to resist. Sno-cone season is definitely not my friend!

Current favorite song you like to workout to? “Sorry” and “Hold Up” by Beyonce are on repeat.

What’s in your gym bag? My S’well water bottle, baby wipes,  my Nike Flyknit Racers, and a box of Luna Bars.

If you had to choose, would you rather workout without a sports bra or wear see through leggings when you bend over? See-through leggings for sure! My post-baby tatas would not be safe without the support of a sports bra!

Would you rather workout without deodorant for a week or sweat puddles that leaked over and touched your neighbor? No deodorant. I actually went two weeks without deodorant when I drastically changed my eating in March and you really couldn’t tell…I swear. LOL.

Would you rather eat the same meal for an entire year or not workout for an entire year? I’ll skip the workout, food is life over here!

deepfriedfit-spotlight-fitxbrit_2Have something in your eye OR need to sneeze but never be able to, for a year? Need to sneeze because I can just imagine me constantly rubbing my eyes, trying to get something out.  My selfies would be horrible due to all the redness. Hahaha!

Would you rather never have coffee again or live without your favorite dessert forever? Why are you doing this to me!?!  I guess I’ll say goodbye to cheesecake because you do not want to know me without coffee.
