Virtual Sweat Date: Changes on Deep Fried Fit, Expanding to Austin, and Travel Plans!

Hey Fam! Back with the virtual sweat date catch up because time is flying by and I have so much to share. Blogging took a bit of a back seat and I was focusing more on my Instagram and keeping up with you there. But I definitely miss being able to create longer form content here! My captions on IG can only be sooo long right? So let’s catch up!

If we were on a virtual sweat date, I’d tell you…

Deep Fried Fit is changing. That’s the beauty about blogs. They grow with us as our lives change different directions. My blog has always been an outlet for me to share my experiences in hopes of inspiring or helping anyone who reads it. What started off as a strictly fitness and restaurant reviews blog five years ago turned into more of a fitness lifestyle blog. Over the last few years, I shared more about my travel adventures (because I mostly ate and worked out on vacation), mental health, and self care.

Fitness is a lifestyle and it isn’t restricted just to what I do in the gym. And now, I want to share more peeks into my personal life because I’m more than just a fitness and food junkie. If you haven’t noticed already, I’m starting to share more about health and beauty as it pertains to my fitness lifestyle. Don’t worry… I won’t be swatching eye shadow palettes or lipsticks, but I hope you’ll enjoy my exploring this new chapter. I was definitely nervous about the change, but at the end of the day, I share what I love and I hope you’ll like what I share!

I’m expanding Fitness Ambassadors to Austin. Wild and scary! I’ve always had my sights set on Austin, but have been afraid to pull the trigger. How does one expand? Well… it’s by throwing a workout party, inviting some folks and saying, “Hi! I’m Mai Lyn. Can we be friends?” I’m hosting a poolside silent yoga party at the JW Marriott in downtown Austin with my gal Sydney of @spinsyddy. I decided that I could sit here (in Dallas) and try to plan expansion, or do what Ive always done, just jump in. I’m jumping in and figuring this out as I go and hoping for the best. If you know anyone in Austin that would love to come, here’s the party link. Wish me luck!

I’m SO excited for all the travel plans this year. I’m basically going somewhere at least once month. I have Austin, Los Angeles, Phoenix, Chicago, and Hong Kong/Thailand. Most of this is for work, but I always find a way to have some fun. I’m definitely super excited about traveling to Hong Kong to visit one of my best friends. I booked a 15 day trip in November and I’m pumped!!! My goal this year was to take an international trip and I’m keeping that promise to myself. Now to renew my passport and apply for Global Entry…

I love being a Fabletics Ambassador. Their stuff is SO cute. They have sizes XXS – 3X. I wear the XS because I have muscular legs and I don’t like super tight fitting clothes. I have loved their tights a lot. They sit really nicely on my waist without digging in and creating a muffin top effect. This black sports bra (above) is SERIOUSLY my favorite. It’s so comfy and I love the strappy details. They have some really fun styles I think are great for the active woman on-the-go. I certainly feel really stylish and am obsessed with pops of color. Duh. You can learn more about their program and clothing here.

I hosted my first ever fitness festival this past weekend called the Noya EmpowHer Movement at the Dallas Farmers Market. It was a full day of a variety of yoga classes and workshops. It was truly a perfect event that came together really nicely. I partnered with Christine, founder of Noya Yoga to create and event that would cater to a broad range of Dallas yogis. We offered a 4 main stage classes for beginner to intermediate yogis, workshops for those looking for more of a challenge (think arm balances and headstands), and puppy and goat yoga if you just need an excuse to laugh uncontrollably. This was also one of the most challenging events because of all the moving parts. I’m used to hosting a 1 hour workout event with a few things happening after the workout. But to coordinate with 4 studios, multiple vendors, getting permits, police officers, event insurance, the City of Dallas, and the emotional rollercoaster and pressure of making it happen….holy shit. I learned a lot about myself in this process.

Thank you. Thank you for reading, for following along, and coming to my events. It does mean a lot to see the support, on social media and in real life. I remember when I first started my blog, it was a hobby even I didn’t take seriously till a year later. What started as a lonely journey and creative outlet has transformed my life for the better and I get to meet incredible people every day. I get to do something that makes me happy and focus on creating something that is much larger than me. I don’t say it enough, but thank you for showing so much love. You guys are seriously the best.
