Mindful Monday: 3 Ways I Like to Reset with Adidas

This blog is brought to you in partnership with adidas. Photography by Maribel Morales.

The year end is near! Isn’t that crazy? 2018 flew by and I am in awe of how fast this year has gone. With the holidays in full swing, I’m partnering with adidas to remind you all to slow down and take care of YOU. Holidays are busy for everyone and it’s probably one of the most stressful times of the year as well. I’m sharing 3 ways I like to reset when things start to feel overwhelming.

Schedule Me Time

As someone with a normally jam packed schedule, finding time for myself can be quite challenging. Not because I don’t have time, but because I don’t make time. It’s so easy to prioritize other things above myself. Whether that’s a networking function, a family or friends social gathering, or any other tempting, FOMO-inducing event, it’s so easy to over commit. I looked at my calendar this week and wondered why on earth do I have an engagement every single night? I’ve made it a habit to find a day in the week or a weekend in the month that I have just for myself. It’s important to schedule that time for yourself. Whether that’s a few hours of reading, a spa day, or a hobby you love. Go ahead and pencil it in now. Take a look at your schedule and book those appointments with yourself, even if it’s only for 30 minutes.

I also shared 10 Ways to Practice Self Care and is a great read for anyone feeling a little drained this holiday.

Journal / Write it Down

Writing is therapeutic for me. Obviously. That’s why I write for a living. I find that putting pen to paper can be really helpful when trying to organize my thoughts or work through anxiety caused by work stress. It’s an opportunity for you to have an honest conversation with yourself and to work through your thoughts. I keep a journal on me at all times and my laptop for when I need to write something down. Here are a few things I love doing:

  • Highlight List – For each month, I write down the highlights or accomplishments. It’s nice to look back on and see that I have accomplished a lot. I keep it on my phone and update it each month. As part of being an entrepreneur, I tend to feel a lot of productivity guilt. It’s when I don’t feel that I’ve crossed enough tasks off my list even if I put in 12 to 14 hour days. The highlight list offer positive reinforcement and has been a helpful reminder to give myself some grace over the past year.
  • Affirmations – I used to think affirmations were cheesy. It was something I saw in movies and didn’t give it a second thought until I tried it for myself. It could be a few affirmations or many, but writing them down and keeping them somewhere accessible can be helpful. I think it’s completely normal to feel a roller coaster of emotions during the holidays. Writing something as simple as “I am deserving of …” or “I am enough” can reading it to yourself can be so powerful. Try it.
  • Thought Purge – I have a million things racing through my mind. So much so, it keeps me from relaxing before bed or I’ll even wake up in the middle of the night thinking about what I need to get done. One thing I like doing is writing down the things that pop into my head. Putting it on paper feels like I’m purging it from my thoughts.

Create your ideal space

The state of my home space and work space is incredibly important to me. If it’s super messy or untidy, it makes it hard for me to perform or concentrate or even relax. That means my bedroom, bathroom, work space all the way to the tidiness of my purse, backpack and even wallet. I’m currently going through bathroom renovations and my house is a mess. Not to mention, I don’t have a functioning shower. I’m a firm believer in creating a positive space because it has an impact on your overall mood and energy.

Two things I like to do:

  • I’m a big fan of donating unused clothes, items, shoes, etc. There are numerous clothing drives that you can participate in. This is an easy way to simplify your belongings
  • Find a place for each item. Use bins or containers and put things away. I’m working toward having no items on spaces like my desk or my bathroom counters. There’s something about putting away items and having minimal things in sight that is really calming.

Thanks for reading and following along. I hope some of these tips were helpful in case you were looking for ways to reset. Shoutout to adidas for this amazing lounge wear.
