How to Make an Epic Italian Hoagie with Dietz and Watson + Contest

I’m a firm believer that food brings people together. I love sharing delicious moments catching up with friends over a good meal. Whether it’s a watch party (because football), holiday potluck, or just cause… nothing is more heart breaking than not having enough food to feed your loved ones. So when Dietz & Watson asked me to #ChooseTheTable and create something using their amazing deli meats and artisan cheeses, I had the perfect idea! I LOVE Italian sandwiches and this is inspired by a local hidden gem, the Italian Stallion from Jimmy’s Food Store. Why not create an epic Italian hoagie recipe to share using all the best stuff? When I think about the way my friends and I like to host our parties, we always go big.

Italian Hoagie Recipe

Ingredients are simple:
  • Hoagie rolls
  • 2-3 different cheeses
  • 5 different cuts of cured meats
  • Duck liver pate (optional)
  • Hoagie dressing
  • Shredded lettuce
  • diced tomatoes

I went to the nearest Tom Thumb and grabbed all the food stuff from the deli section. Super easy and was the perfect one stop shop for it all. I was able to grab different meats that were already pre-packaged and was able to request sliced cheeses and meats straight from the deli. Here’s what I got:

Cheese:
  • mozzarella
  • provolone
Meats:
  • Pepperoni
  • Proscuitto
  • Sopressata
  • Calabrese
  • Capocolla
  • Salame

You can honestly choose whatever meats you like. I selected cuts that I loved and new ones to try. I sliced the hoagies halfway to make it like a sub. Layered the cheeses first, then the meats, tomatoes and lettuce. Sprinkles pepper and the hoagie dressing on top. I also like duck liver pate. Didn’t use it this time, but will definitely be adding next time.

After the finishing touches, cut it in half and serve on trays. These are some epic sandwiches and the goal is for everyone to be happy and full. The beauty about these being cold cut sandwiches makes it easy to keep.
