Recently, I’ve had this obsession with Pad Woon Sen, a Thai dish made up of stir fried glass noodles (made out of beans, not glass), a variety of veggies and meat (preferably shrimp for me).
So I’ve been on the search for the best in Dallas and I was recommended to visit three different places: Si Lom on Oak Lawn, Ruang Thai in Plano, and Malai Kitchen in West Village.
I’ve definitely blogged about Ruang Thai and Malai before so you can definitely read my blogs about them here and here, but the last place I visited was Si Lom. I was not impressed.
So not impressed, I felt almost cheated. The dish is absolutely beautiful and there was a healthy amount of shrimp tucked away amongst the veggies and the noodles. Despite that, there wasn’t much flavor. There were almost too many veggies that cluttered the dish and made grabbing the noodles a kind of scavenger hunt on my plate. It was overall a very bland dish which is pretty disappointing because I had assumed Si Lom was one of the best Thai restaurants in Dallas.
It could’ve been a fluke, but I’m at a loss here. So far Malai is my favorite of the three for Pad Woon Sen based on taste and it’s not even authentic Thai food. Help a sister out and let me know who you think serves up the best Thai food in Dallas.
