I love food adventures with friends, especially Phileats_. Always down for a good gluttonous time. The weather was gorgeous and perfect for lunch on a patio. The destination: C’Viche on lower Greenville.
To order, we pretty much closed our eyes and pointed at a bunch of different items. To start we had the Brisket Bullets ($5), which is a fried jalapeno stuffed with brisket and cheese. I’m ok with spicy foods, but I couldn’t handle the heat. The brisket flavor got lost in the heat and cheese.
Next, we both loved the Tuna Crudo Poke Style ($14). Gorgeous plating and the fish was fresh. It’s on the sweeter side with the ginger, but nonetheless refreshing and light.
Now for the main course, we both ordered a different ceviche to try. Phil ordered the scallop ceviche ($16) which comes with grapefruit, habanero, basil, sweet pea, and red onions. There’s a hidden kick i there too. Sorry guys, I’m a wimp and can’t handle the heat. I missed the part about the habnero.
Aside from the crudo, I loved loved loved my halibut ceviche. Halibut was the market fish of the day and I got it baja style with lime, tomoto, onion, jalapeno, avocado, cilantro. On the menu you can choose between the fish of the day, shrimp, scallops and tuna and how you want it prepared. You can choose to have it baja, peruvian, island or asian style ceviche. There’s definitely more to the menu and you can check it out here.
Our meal was pretty much a compilation of appetizers and we decided to finish it off with some grilled fish tacos ($4.50 each). It had slaw, cabbage and a sriracha mayo. To be honest, I wasn’t really impressed with the flavors here. The cheese was a little overwhelming and would skip this altogether.
Overall, I liked C’viche, but I’m not so completely wowed by it. Bill total was around $60-$70 with gratuity. I can see this place being more of a casual hang out with nibbles and drinks. Not really a place I’d go for another foodie lunch or dinner date. With the heat coming, you better eat fast!
Special thanks to Phil for lunch and all your awesome food-photo tips.
