God Bless BBQ. God Bless Pecan Lodge.

20140122-154944.jpgRecently, I’ve had this hankering for some good BBQ. I really wanted a big ole potato slathered in all the works with chopped brisket on top and drenched in BBQ. I wanted some smoky brisket or a to-die-for pulled pork sandwich. I just wanted it all.

With my first day off, I decided I wanted Pecan Lodge. The last time I was there was almost year ago. I haven’t been back because I don’t have time to wait two hours in line to get my fix (with the chance of it running out before I get to the cashier). With all the time in the world on this gorgeous day, I wasn’t restricted with work or lunch hours. I had the freedom! Doors opened at 11am, and I was there at 1040am. Lucky for me, the line was shorter than I expected. I believe when Pecan Lodge announced their move to Deep Ellum, a lot of folks just assumed they were temporarily out until the new shop was done. To my advantage, my wait time was about 10 mins. Will probably never ever ever ever ever happen again.

In our excitement, we almost made the arrogant mistake of ordering a half pound of all the meats, which include the pork ribs, beef ribs, sausage, brisket, and pulled pork, plus the Hot Mess potato and some sides. Thank God I came to my senses! We eat got a three meat plate and the Hot Mess for kicks.

I did NOT even make a dent. I was sort of ashamed. Usually I can throw down, but this time I was truly defeated. Ha!

Brisket: So tender. So smoky and peppery. Almost didn’t even need the sauce. Fatty and delicious. Could cut it with a fork.

Pulled pork: Good, but I was so overwhelmed with the brisket I forgot about it.

Pork Ribs: The meat almost fell off the bone. Hefty portion. You are just so food drunk at this point, I’m having a hard time giving you better descriptions than good and yummy.

Mac n Cheese: It has jalapeno and bacon bits in it! What else is there to say!?!

Cole Slaw: Fresh and crunchy and tangy. Not too overwhelming.

Hot Mess: I originally wasn’t too thrilled with this loaded meat tater being a sweet tater, but it actually worked out best that way. The sweetness complimented the overpowering brisket tangs very well. Pretty amazing mess.
